Previously here in 2024 with fellow guitarist Pete Oxley, UK-based Nicolas Meier has carved a reputation as one of the world’s most original and uniquely talented guitarists.
Drawing from a love of Turkish, Eastern, and Middle Eastern music, flamenco, tango, and more — all mixed with jazz — Nicolas’ versatility and musical fluency extend far beyond these influences. His considerable talents drew the attention of rock guitar legend Jeff Beck, who made him a mainstay in his group and took him on two world tours.
Originally from Switzerland, Nicolas founded his own record label, MGP Records, in 2009. To date, he’s produced twelve albums: as a solo artist; in various group formats; and in a duo/quartet format with long-time partner and collaborator, Pete Oxley.
In 2017, Steve Vai’s Favoured Nations Records released Nicolas’ brilliant solo album, Infinity, which featured virtuoso veterans Jimmy Haslip on bass and Vinnie Colaiuta on drums.
Most recently, Nicolas completed and released two new albums on MGP (Meier Group Productions), including the World Group’s pristine effort, Peaceful, backed by a 50-date tour.
2020 saw the release of the World Group’s Live album, recorded at Colchester Arts Centre; the Meier Budjana Group’s Flying Spirits, featuring the aforementioned Jimmy Haslip; the solo guitar album, Stories; and the metal album, Escapades, from Nicolas’ My Dark Side! In 2022, the World Group released a new studio album, Magnificent. This 3-CD package includes Live and Stories.
Having made a lasting impression on the legendary Bill Bruford, the aforementioned Jeff Beck, and Steve Vai, Nicolas is unquestionably one of today’s most well-rounded, ambitious and masterful talents on guitar.
