On our website you’ll find information about the facilities and services we maintain for Wivenhoe. With a population of approximately 12,000 located on the Essex coast on the banks of the river Colne, approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) south east of Colchester, we are in the Harwich and North Essex Parliamentary Constituency.
Wivenhoe Town Council consists of 12 elected members to promote and watch over the interests of the town. We are the most local level of government but not affiliated to any particular political party. The next tier up are your Ward Councillors who sit on various committees at Colchester Borough Council. The tier above them is the County Councillor who represents the town at the Essex County Council meetings.
Wivenhoe Town Mayor and Mayoress for 2020-2021 is Cllr. Phil Booth and Mrs Louise Booth. Phil has lived in Wivenhoe for 14 years and been a councillor for 5 of those. He is known to many of us in the town for his dedicated volunteering on the ferry throughout the summer as well as helping with the annual regatta and the Christmas lights. Phil is actively involved with Colne Estuary Partnership and has a great knowledge of the river and surrounding areas. On accepting the position Phil said ‘I know that this will not be a traditional mayoral year as I will not be able to hold the fundraising events which I would have loved to do. However, I feel that I can rise to the challenge of helping the council and the town move on from the Covid-19 crisis and learning from the experiences we faced this year.’ Wivenhoe Deputy Town Mayor for this year is Cllr. Andrea Luxford-Vaughan.
