Terry Garland

  • Councillor

I was elected to Wivenhoe Town Council in March 2026 and I am a retired architect who has lived in Wivenhoe since 1987.

My experience of local government has been from the other side of the fence, having been an employee at Chelmsford and Maidstone Councils, subsequently seeing planning applications through to consent with City of London and other planning departments often with the involvement of Conservation Officers and on occasion Historic England. My local work includes the new-build part of Fenwick in Colchester and the archaeology preceding the build.

I am concerned to maintain Wivenhoe as the special place it is with a strong community and an open and welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike. I hope I can serve Wivenhoe and work with others to see us maintain the unique identity of the Town.
