Yesterday our Mayor, Cllr Jon Guy, attended the Colchester Remembrance Service at Colchester War Memorial to mark the 81st anniversary of Operation Market Garden.
Many people will know it as the airborne invasion of the Netherlands which was typified by the Parachute Regiment’s ill-fated efforts to hold the Bridge at Arnhem, to allow allied tank forces onward into Germany..
Naturally as the home of the Parachute Regiment it is especially poignant for Colchester.
