I held an ‘Action Day’ in Wivenhoe on Friday 18 July. The aim was to litter pick and deal with any fly tips present in the large, wooded area behind the King George Park. On the day, I was joined by the Wivenhoe Wombles and a colleague, warden Michael Watkins.
Due to the hot weather, we were pleased to be working in the shade, under cover of the trees. We commenced at 09.30 hours and finished at 11.50 hours. During that time, we filled two large bags with litter, which rather worryingly included a full Sharps Box used for the storage of hypodermic needles; cleared a fly tip of metal grill tops, plastic, linoleum and a green bucket as well as dismantling an abandoned camp site.
It was a day well spent and good to meet and interact with the Wivenhoe Wombles.
